Installation of Linux Operating System (Red Hat 8) in VMWare Workstation
You can follow below steps and can install Linux Operating
System in VMWare Workstation. We are installing Red Hat 8.
Step1: Go to your desktop icon of VMware Workstation and
open it. It will prompt you with below screen for Create,
Open and Connect to Virtual Machine. We will go ahead and
create a new virtual machine.
Step2: You will get next screen now for New Machine Wizard
where you can select Typical and Custom. We are moving forward
via Typical as we are going to build a base Linux Machine.
Step3: You have multiple options in next step but we will go
ahead with “I will install operating system later”. Now this
step will create a blank virtual machine later we can add ISO
and install Operating System to it.
Step4: Select Guest Operating System type, we are going with
Linux with Red Hat 8.
Step5: Name your virtual machine and select the virtual disk
location on your computer once you will do next, you will be
asked for how much of virtual disk you need for your VM.
Step 6: There is some final touch is remaining now. Below screen
is showing you to click on Finish button and your VM will be
created. You can also customize your hardware before clicking
on Finish button. Click on Finish button if you don’t want to
make any changes. Your VM is now created and will go ahead with
installation of Linux OS.
Step7: Boot from ISO and start installation now.
Installation of RedHat8
There are multiple ways of OS installation like network, using
ISO, using Kickstart etc. Here we are not going studies them.
We will install RedHat8 using ISO.
We are here to test so we have a virtual environment and going
to boot the system with ISO and first screen you will see is the
below one.
So press enter and start installation process, you can skip
your ISO check if you are sure about it. It will prompt you
to Language selection and then to its main page where you
can select required things and go for installation of OS.
We are on default site so just press “Continue”.
Select Time Zone as per your location and click on
“Software Selection” and see available options there.
You can install GUI, Workstation etc. as per
requirement. We are going with “Minimal Install”.
You can also install some packages as well.
Now Click on “Done”.
Let’s move to “Installation Destination” where you can select
required disks and create required partitions. We are going
with “Custom” configuration after selecting disk we have.
We will create a “/boot” partition which is primary
requirement for OS load. We have created /, /home and a
swap partition which can be seen in below image. Click on
“Done” and it will show you a summary of changes as well.
Select Accept Changes and will go with “Network & Hostname”.
You can enable network and configure IP or we can do it after
OS install as well.
Now we are good to go. Click on “Begin Installation”.
Here you can set root password and create a normal user as
well. We have set a root password and OS is loading now.
Once it will done, you will be prompted for reboot.
Just reboot and here your system installed with Redhat8 and
login the server console via root password you have set
during the installation.
